WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

FOLLOWING DIAGNOSIS THE CASE MAY BE REFERRED ON TO SPECIALIST TEAMS AT A SPECIALIST HOSPITAL    AN APPROPRIATE TREATMENT PLAN IS AGREED AT THIS TIME.  THIS MAY BE DONE OVER THE TELEPHONE.  ALLOCATION OF BED AT IDENTIFIED HOSPITAL AND WARD (DEPENDENT ON INJURY AND AVAILABLE BED) WILL ALSO BE MADE AT THIS TIME

PATIENT PRESENTS UNCONSCIOUS

Transferral arrangements made and transport provided for patient to move to specialist hospital.

Upon arrival patient is admitted in to Intensive Care Unit.

Dependent upon nature of injury patient may be recommended for surgical intervention.

PATIENT PRESENTS CONSCIOUS

Transferral arrangements made for patient to be transferred from Accident and Emergency on to appropriate ward (this may be Intensive Care Unit or a General Ward)

Discharged home with appropriate advice given with letter for follow up with GP
